California College Adds Cameras for Added Security

Published: July 1, 2008

TORRANCE, Calif. – After two sexual assaults on El Camino College’s campus, administrators are installing as many as 100 security cameras in buildings, parking lots and walkways, according to the Daily Breeze.

Officials said the college planned to install the cameras before the incidents; however, the assaults provided more incentive to follow through with the plan.

Currently, the college has successfully mounted eight of the cameras. According to officials, the first cameras cost less than $50,000.

Digital images taken by the cameras will be sent to the campus police station and stored on a hard drive. Dispatchers will be able to view specific areas on campus when reports are made and relay the information to campus police.
