SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Organization of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) has just introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 2183 that would provide funding to departments throughout California, enabling them to implement officer fitness and wellness programs.
The program would involve a physical fitness program with PTO to participate, as well as an educational component that would include everything from tobacco cessation to peer counseling, suicide awareness and prevention, diet and nutrition.
Although the penal code section that includes campus police was inadvertently left out of the bill when it went to counsel to be written, COPS officials now say the situation has been remedied. When the bill is read in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on March 28, campus police will be included.
