The California Nurses Association says the state isn’t doing enough to protect them from Ebola.
About 60 nurses met with Governor Jerry Brown last week asking him to have the highest standards adopted to protect them, reports CBS Sacramento. They say they have inadequate equipment and are told to go to websites to get information rather than receiving onsite training.
“We are hoping to God that it never comes to California, ” says RoseAnn DeMoro, the executive director of the state’s largest nurses’ union and National Nurses United. “But if it does, we want
to make sure our nurses have every safeguard.”
The California Hospital Association countered by saying the nurses’ claims weren’t true.
“We are very much on top of this and hospitals prepare for this every day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” says BJ Bartleson, speaking for the organization.
Governor Brown has also had meetings with officials from the state’s Health Human Services, California Department of Public Health, Department of Industrial Relations and the Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
