SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Sen. Marty Block (D-San Diego) has suggested equipping all state public schools with doors that can be locked from the inside, in order to keep possible gunman and intruders outside of classrooms.
Newer schools already have the security measure; however, 30% of schools throughout the state do not have the locks, according to KABC.
Those in opposition of installing the locks, which cost between $30 and $60 per door, cite that the price of the hardware could be a challenge for struggling districts. Additionally, many have questioned what would happen if a gunman locks himself in a classroom full of children.
