BERKELEY, Calif. — Officials with the Berkeley Unified School District estimate that it will cost roughly $500,000 to upgrade security measures, pending a report from two consultants analyzing safety needs at all schools in the district.
BUSD has hired Edu-Safe Associates that will focus on threats from dangerous individuals, such as a shooter, while Dimensions Unlimited will concentrate on disaster preparedness. School officials note that following the consultants’ work, the cost to improve security could be lower or higher than the estimated $500,000.
The district also expects to receive input from the U.S. Department of Education, the White House and the California Department of Education on suggested measures to reduce harm from school shootings, Contra Costa Times reports.
