CLEVELAND – Ohio bus driver Laura Zborowski was killed Tuesday after she was crushed by a school bus during a routine emergency exit drill.

Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said that Zborowski threw a 10-year-old girl out of the way of the bus, which started to roll backwards during the drill. Edwards said he didn’t think Zborowski had time to react, and she was rolled over by the bus, reports www.chron.com,

“She sacrificed her own life to save the life of this 10-year-old girl,” he said.

Edwards said the Ohio State Highway Patrol will research the bus’ mechanics to identify what caused it to roll backwards during the drill.

Zborowski worked for a private bus company, which was a subsidiary of National Express Corp. Molly Hart, the spokeswoman of National Express Corp., said the company is working with authorities on its own investigation.
