Burglar Alarm Spoils High School Burglary Spree
GRANADA HILLS, Calif.— A high school’s burglar alarm system helped foil a string of high school burglaries in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley. Police arrested an adult and minor on suspicion of burglary after they were found at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, Calif., after a burglar alarm had gone off at the school at 4 a.m. on April 7.
Los Angeles Police Department officers say one of the suspects then admitted to being involved in a recent string of burglaries that has taken place at nearby Taft, El Camino Real and Patrick Henry high schools.
Los Angeles television station KCBS reports the same break-in method was used at each of the four schools and the burglars stole cash and laptop computers. About $100,000 in damage was inflicted on the four schools.
Among the thefts at the schools were $1,000 in money to fund the school prom and $500 raised for the family of a student who recently died.
