BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Due to a lack of funds, the Buena Vista School Board unanimously voted to lay off its entire staff Monday and sever all benefits effective immediately. As a result, all classes have been canceled.
Board members said Buena Vista School District had lost its funding, and had to pay back a large amount of money it had received. After May 3’s payday, board members realized that the cash flow was completely wiped out, WNEM.com reports.
Before the school board’s vote, the teacher’s union voted to work through the week, in hopes of finding a solution to keep jobs available. Now, the union plans to meet to determine whether they will volunteer to complete the remainder of the school year.
