RAMSEY, N.J. — The Ramsey Board of Education has agreed to a $4.2 million settlement with a student who was paralyzed after being punched by a bully.
Sawyer Rosenstein, who is now a freshman at Syracuse University, was 12 when he wrote E-mails to a guidance counselor and an assistant principal at Eric Smith Middle School about the harassment he was receiving at the hands of another student, MSNBC.com reports. On May 16, 2006, the bully punched Rosenstein so hard he fell to his knees.
Rosenstein was paralyzed from the waist down when a clot moved down his spine and burst. He has undergone 19 surgeries.
