Boston High School Student Expelled for Hacking Campus’ Network

Published: November 27, 2007

BOSTON – School officials at Milton Academy, a private school, sent a letter to parents explaining that a student had been expelled for tampering with school records. Three others were suspended.

Interim Head of School Rick Hardy stated in the letter that a male student had obtained access to network and E-mail passwords. The student used the information to hack into the school’s system to change his grades and attendance records, and grades for his classmates.

He then gave the information to three other students who also viewed E-mail accounts. One of the students gained access to a test before a teacher passed out the exam to a class.

Faculty members were asked to review midterm grades because of the security breach. School officials have also asked faculty members to change their passwords.
