CHICAGO, Ill. – The FBI arrested Cameron McKoy, 18, following a series of bomb threats to a Western Illinois University’s Macomb campus residence hall. However, after McKoy was taken into custody, the threats continued.
According to The Chicago Sun-Times, McKoy – who is a student at the university – was arrested on Oct. 25 after he allegedly made the bomb threats from his cell phone. But the residence hall continued to receive threats through automated phone calls. Then, a Facebook user with the screen name “WIUHACKER” posted a message claiming responsibility for the threats on a Facebook page created by students affected by the incidents.
Authorities subpoenaed Facebook records and were able to trace both the posts and the automated phone calls to McKoy’s computer. He now faces expulsion and criminal charges.
