EUGENE, Ore. – A service technician at the University of Oregon (UO) discovered on March 6 a bomb in the crawl space beneath the school’s archeology laboratory.
Four of UO’s buildings were evacuated, and the local police department’s bomb squad was called in to detonate the explosive device, which they say might have been at that location for years.
According to a representative of the Eugene Police Department, the bomb wasn’t large enough or powerful enough to cause significant structural damage. It could, however, have caused significant injury or death.
Police do not know why the bomb was placed in that lab, nor how long it has been there.
