PINE BLUFF, Ark. – In an effort to improve safety, the Pine Bluff School Board has decided to make Pine Bluff High School a closed campus.
Superintendent Frank Anthony proposed the move after years of study and debate, and the board approved it in a 4-2 vote on March 30.
Starting in the 2006-2007 year, there will be two 40-minute lunch periods, and Pine Bluff High School’s 1,000 students will be required to stay on campus during lunchtime.
The change is intended to reduce student post-lunch absenteeism, tardiness, fights, drug activity, traffic accidents, vandalism and theft. To enforce the changes, security will be increased and additional security personnel will be trained. Once students arrive at the campus in the morning, they will not be able to leave without parental and school permission until school is dismissed.
