Bedbug Infestation Leads N.C. College to Evacuate Dorms

Published: September 19, 2010

SALISBURY, N.C. – More than 100 students were evacuated from their dorm rooms at Catawba College because of an infestation of bedbugs.

Students noticed the bedbugs on Sept. 13; however, they were not evacuated from the dorms until two days later. Five buildings were affected by the bedbug invasion, reports WSOCTV.com. Additionally, officials are inspecting all campus buildings to see if they have been affected, as bedbugs can easily spread from one area to another.

School officials gave students $10 to dry all their fabrics on high heat, which kills the insects. Furthermore, exterminators will make periodic examinations in the coming weeks to make sure the outbreak hasn’t resurfaced.
