An eco-anarchist group called the Olga Cell of the Informal Anarchist Federation International Revolutionary Front has claimed responsibility for the nonfatal shooting of a nuclear engineering executive on May 7 in Genoa, Italy. The group is also reportedly partnering with other terrorist organizations, such as the group that sent parcel bombs to researchers at universities in Mexico.
The Olga Cell is part of the Informal Anarchist Federation, which claims that technology is responsible for the world’s ills, Nature reports. The group targets scientists, which it considers to be the handmaidens of capitalism.
The cell says that it is uniting with eco-anarchist groups in Mexico, Chile, Greece and the United Kingdom. A recent report by the Swiss Federal Intelligence Service noted signs of “an increasing degree of international networking between perpetrators.”
