New York state officials are looking into how the State University College at Geneseo (SUNY-Geneseo) campus police handles cases of underage drinking on campus, according to newsday.com.
The investigation was prompted by an incident where a 19-year-old sophomore, Arman Partamian, was discovered dead at his off-campus apartment in March from alcohol poisoning after three days of heavy drinking at PIGS, a non-Greek organization that is not recognized or overseen by the college. Partamian had a blood alcohol level of .55, nearly seven times the legal limit for driving.
Now, the New York Inspector General’s Office has requested information from the university regarding University Police alcohol and drug law enforcement records, according to ROCnow.com. Further, the Geneseo Village Police and the New York State University Police Officers Union are investigating how the university reports crime statistics.
Officials at the union allege that SUNY-Geneseo campus police don’t notify Geneseo Village Police when drug or alcohol-related crimes occur on campus.
As for Partamian’s death, three men have been charged with criminally negligent homicide, second-degree hazing and other charges.
