Auburn University released a statement detailing a data security mistake that made the personal information of 370,000 current and former students publicly available online.
The April 3 statement stressed that no financial information was compromised and there is currently no evidence of information being misused.
The school’s statement also assured students that officials “have initiated a comprehensive response to investigate and resolve the issue, and to provide information and support to anyone who may be affected.”
Student information that was made available included names, birthdates, Social Security numbers and academic information, according to wrbl.com. Officials said the data was taken down on March 2 and the problem was fixed by securing a server and using additional security measures.
Students who were affected have been contacted and given two years of credit monitoring and identity protection. The school has also set up a confidential telephone line and put security tips and resources on their website.
