Army Sergeant Attempts Suicide in Emergency Room

FAIRBORN, Ohio — A retired Army sergeant major fired a gunshot during a suicide attempt at the Wright-Patterson Medical Center on June 11. The man surrendered to base security forces.

The man fired one shot, allegedly aimed at his own body, but was not struck by the bullet, the Dayton Daily News reports. No one else was injured when the man fired his 9 mm handgun.

The man has not yet been charged with any crimes. He was being treated at the medical center.
