Arkansas University Rated Safest Among 450 Colleges

StateUniversity.com has ranked the top 450 colleges and universities based on safety ratings across the nation.

The listed colleges and universities were ranked for safety on a scale that accounts for severity of a crime as well as frequency of crime. The listing included categories such as aggravated assault, arson, burglary, forcible rape, larceny-theft, murder, robbery and vehicle theft. The statistics were taken from crime reports submitted by college/university law enforcement between January 1 and December 31, 2008.

Arkansas State University-Beebe was listed as the safest school by StateUniversity.com, while Virginia State University, Rice University and Clark Atlanta University were ranked in the bottom three.

While StateUniversity.com intends the listing to be used as a tool, it also suggest to consider other factors, such as overall crime in a neighborhood, before making any decisions relating to a campus’ safety.
