TEMPE, Ariz.—Off-campus apartment complexes at Arizona State University (ASU) are implementing stricter policies to crack down on underage drinking.

Because ASU forbids drinking on campus, many off-campus complexes advertise themselves as the alternative for students over the age of 21, according to AZCentral.com. Unfortunately, underage drinkers are also attracted to the complexes.

Last September, more than 90 residents at the Vue off-campus housing unit were arrested for underage drinking. The arrests were the result of a targeted enforcement operation by the Tempe Police Department.

As a result, many buildings, such as the Vista Del Sol complex, have enforced an alcohol-free policy. Residents are required to sign in their guests at the apartment building. Additionally, community assistants have increased their patrols.
