Apparent Murder-Suicide Unfolds at U. of Washington Campus

Published: April 2, 2007

SEATTLE – A man and woman were found shot to death April 2 in a University of Washington (UW) architecture building in what police describe as “almost certainly” a murder-suicide.

The 25-year-old female victim was a university employee. The suspect, a male in his 40s, was her ex-boyfriend. County records show she filed a temporary restraining order against the man March 6 after he threatened her, her sister and their dogs. The order mentions previous physical attacks and threats of suicide if she would not see him.

Campus police say they weren’t aware of the restraining order. They don’t believe he had permission to carry the murder weapon on campus, where firearms are banned.

Classes at Gould Hall were rescheduled as the scene of the crime was closed for the day.
