VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Catholic school students will participate in a series of events promoting tolerance after chanting “We love Jesus” at a school basketball game.
Students from Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School began the taunt at the Norfolk Academy gym, aimed at the school’s Jewish population in attendance. “Jew” was also painted on the gym wall behind the student section at the game.
Taking the chant as anti-Semitic, Sullivan High principal Dennis Price released an apology to Norfolk High and has scheduled a series of events to teach tolerance to his students. Students from Sullivan have already met with Norfolk’s cultural diversity club. Price scheduled a meeting with the Virginia Conference for Community and Justice Federation of Tidewater, and has also contacted the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and the Anti-Defamation League. Price also intends on having diversity training permanently taught at his school.
