BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—An Alabama high school recorded nearly 600 absent students after three suicide notes were found in the boys’ bathrooms.
Officials at Hoover High School, which has around 2,950 students, said they “respect” the decision of parents to keep their kids out of school on October 10, according to the Inquisitr.
Three identical notes threatening suicide due to depression were found inside the school’s boys’ bathrooms earlier in the week. Police were able to identify the student responsible and are in the process of getting him help.
Parents evidently decided to be cautious with their children because the notes did not mention a method of suicide and they believed the notes were written by an emotionally unstable teen.
Campus Safety has reported on multiple school shootings this month, including the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College that left nine dead.
