STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A new policy at Penn State requires a background check for all new hires, regardless of whether they work around children.
The previous policy covered administrators, faculty and some non-academic appointments, the Centre Daily Times reports. Now, students who have wage payroll jobs, graduate assistants, visiting scholars and adjunct faculty will undergo a background check.
The overhaul of the university’s policies is the result of recommendations in the Freeh report on the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
