Alcohol Banned at U. Colorado Fraternities

Published: April 13, 2006

BOULDER, Colo. – According to a press release from the president of the Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) at the University of Colorado (CU), Bolder, for an indefinite amount of time, fraternities will not be allowed to have alcohol served at their parties.

The move was prompted by the April 9 death of CU sophomore Jesse Gomez. He had attended a party at the Theta Xi fraternity house for a little more than an hour on April 8 and was found dead on April 9 by his roommate. Gomez’s cause of death is still under investigation.

How long the restrictions on alcohol consumption will remain depends on the outcome of the investigation.

Theta Xi had registered the party in advance with IFC and the CU police department. Security measures included sober event monitors, door control and two emergency medical service members.
