MOBILE, Ala. – An 18-year-old high school student shot and killed himself in front of 150 students during gym class Mar. 6.
Police said JaJuan Holmes, a student at Davidson High School, entered the school’s gymnasium around 10 a.m., at which point he took out a handgun. He fired one shot into the ceiling before turning the weapon on himself.
The school was immediately locked down; however, once police determined there was no further threat, the lockdown ended. No other students were injured during the incident.
Classes continued as usual, although students were allowed to leave the campus if they were signed out by their parents. Grief counselors were also available to students.
