Ala. College to Use Drones to Monitor Campus

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Officials at the University of Alabama Huntsville announced Wednesday that the school will deploy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to monitor the campus.

The UAVs will use small spotlights or infrared cameras, along with video surveillance cameras to scan campus grounds, RT.com reports. University officials did not elaborate how the surveillance technology would prevent criminal activity or improve campus police response time.

Challengers of the drones argue that the plan is a direct violation of a bill going through the Alabama state legislature that would require law enforcement to obtain a warrant in order to use a drone.
