DECATUR, Ala.—Calhoun Community College has adopted a policy that will ban tobacco use on campus.
The policy takes effect Aug. 16, reports MontgomeryAdvertiser.com. First-time violators will get a warning; however, after that, the fine is $25 and will double if not paid in seven days. Students who refuse to pay the fine will not be allowed to register classes or have transcripts released.
Some students are against the policy, saying that smokers should be given a designated area to smoke. School officials said the college has had a problem with smokers not using the appointed smoking areas.
