9th Grader Arrested In Shooting of Wisconsin School Principal

Published: September 28, 2006

CAZENOVIA, Wis. – The principal of a small Wisconsin school was shot several times by a 9th grade student Sept. 29.

The incident began when a 15-year-old male freshman walked into Weston School at 8 a.m. carrying a shotgun. Authorities say a janitor noticed the weapon and took it away from the student, but the teen was able to flee. The suspect then shot the school’s principal John Klang three times with another gun he was carrying.

After Klang was hit, the custodian and other staff members were able to take control of the suspect. Klang was taken to a hospital in Madison where he later died of his injuries.

The suspect was described as a loner who previously joked about hurting his classmates. Authorities plan on charging him on Sept. 30.
