Because hospitals, schools and universities are vulnerable to bombings, administrators should review safety practices to possibly prevent such an event from occurring on campus.
Below are nine ways your campus can prevent bombings:
- Hold the event inside a building with good access control
- Increase police and security officer presence
- Search the venue before the event and then only let authorized individuals enter the site until the event starts
- Conduct background checks on venue employees if budget permits
- Issue photo IDs to venue personnel
- After the event begins, limit access to the venue
- Use metal detectors and conduct bag searches to screen for weapons and suspicious materials
- Train law enforcement, security personnel, staff and the general public on how to identify suspicious activities and packages, as well as how to respond
- Ban attendees from bringing large packages, boxes, backpacks, etc. inside the venue
