WASHINGTON – As Hurricane Gustav swept through the Gulf Coast, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) worked diligently to move 9,000 sick and infirm people out of the area on Aug. 30-31.
The majority of those moved came from nursing homes. Patients were evacuated either by air or ambulance. During the move, three patients died.
The Department of Health Services is investigating the deaths; however, they said the margin of error in deaths has decreased since Hurricane Katrina.
