CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — More than 80 percent of Harvard University’s security officers have signed a petition threatening to go on strike if key issues are not addressed during ongoing contract negotiations.
The threat of a strike came after Securitas, the private contractor that employs the officers, introduced a new health care proposal going into the last week of the negotiations, The Harvard Crimson reports. Union leaders claim the health plan is worse than the one already in place.
Union members and their supporters will be demonstrating in front of the university’s Holyoke Center twice a day for the rest of the week, according to Matthew Gulish, an organizer for SEIU Local 615.
