7-Year-Old Student Brings Drugs to School

Published: February 28, 2006

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia detectives are trying to figure out how a 7-year-old girl was able to obtain cocaine, which she brought to school and then passed around to her second-grade classmates.

The girl brought 12 $5-bags of crack cocaine in her backpack to the John M. Patterson School on Feb. 27. Her teacher alerted authorities when she discovered the drugs. The second-grader told authorities she found the bags of cocaine in her backpack.

A classmate was examined at a local hospital after she told her mother she had eaten some of the powder. The girl who brought the drugs to class was also treated and then released.

How she will be disciplined has yet to be determined. The girl will not, however, be allowed to return to school until her guardians meet with school officials.
