7 Steps to Effectively Deploying Panic Alarms: Part 2

When implemented properly, enterprise mobile duress systems provide an additional layer of safety to staff as well as valuable information to first responders. Here's how to select an integrator, create a plan for implementation, monitor your system for upgrades and more.

For instance, an EMD system could be configured to send an alert to onsite responders in the form of a voice message over a two-way radio. If the alert is not acknowledged, then the main security panel could be notified to initiate a call to police. Every installation has differing needs in terms of notification and response, so it is important that everyone know how to activate the system as well as what happens after a duress call is initiated.

7. Monitor System for Upgrade Needs
No installation will be stagnant. Building configurations may change, additional communication platforms may be added, additional buildings may be added
to the campus, or staffing levels may fluctuate. There are a number of changes that can happen over the lifecycle of an EMD system. It is important to monitor those needs to ensure that the system continues to provide the coverage expected and protection promised.

Because enterprise mobile duress systems are meant to keep people safe, the reliability and accuracy of location capabilities is critical, particularly given the rise of violence over the last few years. Employees are increasingly mobile throughout a campus, so the importance of protecting people on the move is not just a luxury, but a requirement. Selecting the right type of system is perhaps the most important decision security administrators can make when it comes to protecting people.

There are many trends, and consequently, many tradeoffs when it comes to the wireless solutions that offer location during duress situations, and considerations must be made based on the current needs of the system as well as the anticipated growth of the system. While it is impossible to entirely eliminate the possibility of violence in the workplace, there are measures, such as a well specified and implemented EMD system that can greatly increase safety on campus.
