A gas explosion badly damaged a building and injured five Nyack College employees and two adult students on Tuesday.
The blast occurred at 11:45 a.m. at a building that houses the School of Business and Leadership, reports WABC-TV New York. All of the injured were taken to a local hospital, and six were soon released.
Although structural engineers have already done a preliminary investigation of the building, it will be several weeks before a final determination can be made about the extent of the damage and strategy for repairs and renovation, reports the school’s Web site. The building will remain unoccupied until further notice.
The building’s basement and first floor sustained major damage.
On the following day in Louisville, Ky., a gas leak caused a flash fire at the University of Louisville’s (U of L) Belknap campus, reports WDRB. The blaze occurred when a tanker truck delivered a type of gas that catch on fire when exposed to the air.
No one was injured, and the fire, which was outside, was limited to a gas cabinet.
