NEW YORK — People Security has released a report on attitudes and behaviors associated with visual privacy or the protection of data that is displayed on a computer screen. In a study of 800 working professionals, People Security found that customer data and sensitive corporate information are often put at risk outside of an office setting.

Cloud-based services provide access to information on multiple devices, providing more places for this data to be intercepted. According to the report, 67 percent of working professionals used or viewed sensitive data – such as social security numbers, credit card numbers and corporate financial or strategy information – outside of an office setting in the past year.

The study also showed that 73.4 percent of professionals had access to corporate E-mail via the Internet, but 70 percent of those surveyed worked at companies that do not have policies governing the use of data outside of the work environment.
