EVANSTON, Ill.
Published: February 4, 2009

A 10-year-old boy was found hanging by his shirt collar on a hook in a Chicago suburban elementary school bathroom stall on February 3. He was later pronounced dead at the Children’s Memorial Hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the death a suicide by hanging; however, police are still investigating. The boy’s family does not believe the death was the result of suicide.

The Oakton Elementary school fifth-grader was reportedly found by other students who pulled him off the hook before a janitor performed CPR, according to the Associated Press. The boy was unresponsive.
