Missing 5-Year-Old Heart Patient Found With Father

ST. LOUIS — A five-year-old boy awaiting a heart transplant was found with his father and paternal grandmother in a motel Wednesday, hours after he had gone missing from Children’s Hospital.

The father of Porter Stone called the boy’s mother to tell her “he was taking his son” and allegedly removed Porter from the hospital, Reutersreports. The couple is reportedly in a custody suit over Porter.

Jeffrey Stone and Rhonda Marie Matthews, Porter’s father and grandmother, have been arrested and charged with kidnapping, interfering with custody and endangering the welfare of a child, The Associated Press reports.

When Porter was taken, he had as little as a day’s worth of medication in his portable IV.
