A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped after she left her Richmond High School homecoming dance on Oct. 23. According to reports, the teen was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. Two adults and three juveniles have been arrested.
Evidence suggests there may be up to 10 assailants, according to KTVU.com. Police arrested Salvadore Rodriguez, 21, and two teens, ages 16 and 17, on Oct. 27. A day earlier, police arrested two other suspects, 19-year-old Manual Ortega and an unidentified 15-year-old Richmond High student. The student is being charged with one count of sexual assault. Ortega is in custody on $800,000 bail on charges of rape and robbery. He is not a student at the high school.
According to police, the girl left the dance and was waiting for her father to pick her up when a friend invited her to drink alcohol with a nearby group around 9:30 p.m. The girl began drinking with nearly a dozen young men in an alley just off campus, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Investigators believe she was sexually assaulted by at least six men.
The girl was allegedly raped for more than two hours before police were notified. According to reports, as many as a dozen onlookers watched and recorded the attack on cell phones without reporting it. The girl was later found semi-conscious near a picnic table.
School officials intend to install surveillance cameras at the school by next year, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The plan was established before the alleged gang-rape occurred.
