Four middle school students were arrested May 12 after police learned of threats they made against students and faculty over social media channels recently.
Police say the students, all in eighth grade, were plotting to shoot up and bomb Haysville Middle School outside of Wichita, according to kake.com.
School resource officers became aware of the threats around 9:30 a.m. May 12 and quickly located the students. The suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
“Haysville Middle School Administration is taking disciplinary action with the students involved and Haysville Police will determine law enforcement action,” District Communication Director Liz Hames says. “Security at Haysville Middle School will be increased.”
The district’s juvenile attorney will determine what criminal charges, if any, will be brought against the teens.
The school sent a letter home to parents informing them of the situation and the school day continued as scheduled.
