BALTIMORE—Four men, including two current and two former members of Morgan State University’s marching band, have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in her off-campus apartment.
Police have charged Renard James, 30; Dante Green, 24; Dale Lawton, 23; and Howard Smith Cook, 21, with eight counts of sex offense, assault, perverted practice and conspiracy charges, for the June 30 incident, reports the Baltimore Sun. They are all being held without bail.
The victim, whose name has not been released, told police that the suspects forced her pants off and held her down while performing sex acts on her.
University officials confirmed that Lawton and Cook were current students at the university and that James and Green were former students. James has also been a volunteer with the band.
Though the incident took place off campus, university officials said they will investigate the case, and the current students would still be held to the university’s code of conduct.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug.10 for each defendant.
