Four teenage boys are facing charges for posting nude to seminude photos of eight of their female classmates on the Internet.
The 15-year-old boys have been cited for possession of harmful matter depicting a person under 18 and for sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the Los Angeles Times. The explicit photos were removed from a social media site at the request of police.
The photos were taken by the girls who voluntarily sent them to their friends. The images circulated to the suspects who then posted the photos online.
So far, police have discovered eight female victims, ages 14 and 15, who attend Yucaipa High School’s 9th grade campus. Authorities believe there could be more victims.
The sending of explicit photos electronically – known as sexting – has been a growing problem for Yucaipa-Calimesa school administrators. Last fall, school officials attended a sexting workshop hosted by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
