EL PASO, Texas — El Paso’s three largest school districts — El Paso Independent School District, Ysleta Independent School District and Socorro Independent School District — are looking to consolidate their security forces, as well as cut their security budgets.
A bill requiring El Paso district’s to review consolidation options was passed this year, the Associated Press reports. The Texas Legislature was dealing with a $27 billion budget deficit at the time the bill was passed.
A report on each district’s findings — such as a detailed analysis of costs and staffing — must be submitted to the state’s commission of education by May 2012.
