3 Fired at 2 North Carolina Colleges for Illegal Downloading

DURHAM, N.C. – According to The Business Journal, two employees at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and one at North Carolina State University (NCSU) have been fired for illegally downloading music, movies, pornography and software using the universities’ networks.

The names of the employees have not been released although all three worked in information technology (IT) departments for their respective universities.

The employee at NCSU gave one of the workers at NCCU access to one of the NCSU servers. The NCCU employee then proceeded to download karaoke for his child.

Additionally, the employees may have violated federal copyright laws and North Carolina laws regarding the use of state computers.
