Another Arapaho High School security officer says campus administrators were made aware of the fact that Karl Pierson was investigating guns online and had made a death threat against his debate coach, but did nothing about Pierson.
In a Facebook post, Christina Erbacher-Kolk, who has been put on leave, also claims administrators didn’t do enough to address poorly functioning security cameras, the need for further safety training, broken door locks and propped-open doors, reports the Denver Post. She alleges that school officials have punished at least two staff members who have complained about campus security issues. She also claims that these issues continue and the school is doing very little to address them.
The allegations by the security officer stem from an attack by Pierson last December, who was looking for his debate coach when he entered the high school with a shotgun, a machete and homemade bombs. Although the coach was not harmed during the attack, Pierson killed classmate Claire Davis, 17, before killing himself in the school library.
Before the attack, the gunman was demoted from his status as captain of the speech and debate team, which led him to yell in a school parking lot that he would kill the coach.
