Highlights of this year’s hospital security industry census and salary survey include:
- Nearly nine out of 10 (88%) respondents rate their job satisfaction as excellent (40%) or good (48%)
- The median pay for hospital police chiefs/security directors at hospitals with less than 200 beds is $65,000, while it is $120,000 for chiefs/directors at hospitals with more than 800 beds
- 80% of nonsworn hospital security officers receive health insurance, 66% get retirement benefits and 71% receive uniforms or uniform allowances
- Nonsworn officers, however saw a decrease in pay, even when the 2 percent annual rate of inflation is not considered. Thirty-seven percent make $22,000 or less. That is five percentage points more than in 2009. The number of officers making more than $25,000 decreased from 38 percent in 2009 to 32 percent in 2011.
