2 Slayings, 1 Attempted Murder Prompt Hospital Review

MONTREAL, Canada — An internal review will be conducted at Notre-Dame Hospital following two slayings and an attempted murder in the facility.

Two elderly patients were suffocated in the psychiatric ward — the first on June 16 and the second on June 21, The Canadian Press reports. An arrest was made in an unrelated attempted murder on June 22, which also took place in the psychiatric ward.

The hospital issued a news release 11 days after the first death. The news of the deaths was delayed because families of the deceased were being advised, according to the hospital’s Associate Director General  Yvan Gendron.
