Two campus officers at Frankford High School in Philadelphia are being investigated after a 17-year-old student alleged the officers assaulted him.
Jeffione Thomas, who is now 18, was reportedly asked by two truancy officers to stop in a hall after he entered the campus grounds late for class. The student alleges the officers threw him to the ground once he didn’t stop. According to Thomas’ lawyer, the teen suffered lacerations to his face, a black eye and split lip that required stitches, reports philly.com.
However, the student is being accused of punching one of the officers. Since he was a minor at the time of the alleged attack, he is being tried in a juvenile court.
The district is investigating the incident, including reviewing the school’s video surveillance. The teen’s attorney says the footage of the fight clearly shows the officers used excessive force.
Meanwhile, at South Philadelphia High, tension among students and staff are high after a string of racially charged incidents occurred on campus.

On Dec. 2, two Asian students allegedly beat up a disabled African American student. The incident occurred outside of school, according to the news report. The next day, at least 30 Asian students were attacked on campus by a group of African Americans and Asians. Seven were treated at a hospital.
Six African American students and four Asian students were suspended for their alleged role in the incident. The school district and police are investigating the recent attacks.
