HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Two fraternities at Alabama A&M University were suspended until August due to a fight that broke out at an event on campus March 29 between the two organizations.
Members of the Kappa Alpha Psi and Phi Beta Sigma fraternities were among the 1,200 students in attendance at the event. A plastic bottle allegedly hit a spectator during a fraternity skit, inciting the melee.
The suspension delays an upcoming “step show” that had already sold 1,500 advanced tickets.
University President Robert Jennings issued a statement expressing his dismay at the brawl, calling it a “disgrace” and a “sign of disrespect” to the organizations involved.
Student representatives contest that authorities have blown the incident out of proportion.
