2 Drunk Driving Charges in 2 Days Gets University President Fired
RICHMOND, Va. – After being charged with his second drunken driving violation in two days, the president of the University of Mary Washington was fired by the institution’s board.
William J. Frawley, 53, flipped his car in Fairfax on April 10. After leaving the hospital the next morning against medical advice, a witness saw Frawley driving a car missing the right front tire in Fredericksburg,. Police tried to pull him over, but he didn’t comply until he arrived at home. Frawley was then charged with his second drunken driving violation in as many days, in addition to refusal to take a breath test.
Frawley was placed on paid leave April 12 before it was determined it would be in the university’s best interest to terminate him.
Frawley was the university’s seventh president. He previously served as dean of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at George Washington University. He also worked at the University of Delaware for 23 years.
